Life's Encouragement

Unwavering Faith

Have you ever thought about what that would really look like? Unwavering faith. Literally, unwavering. No matter what circumstances come your way, you never once doubt the sovereignty of your Savior. When the worst possible scenarios arise in your life, you continually praise Him for what He has blessed you with.

Women, this is what we are called to. When we were called to be women of God, this was part of it. This means I shouldn’t grow angry each month when I realize I’m still not pregnant. We shouldn’t doubt our stability when our finances are crumbling. We shouldn’t question God when he takes away our grandparent, or sibling, or parent, or child.

But let’s be honest. We do. It’s our natural tendency to feel emotions when things happen around us. I do get angry and frustrated each month when I find out I’m still not pregnant. I do worry about our financial situation. I was upset with God when I experienced loss and tragedy in my life. But the frustratingly beautiful truth is this: I am not God. And He is so much better at his job than I am. I need not worry, because my life is in His hands– not my own!

Luke 12:22-31 says,

22 And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! 25 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 26 If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29 And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. 30 For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you.

I can be certain that he loves me so much more than the ravens or the lilies–and he takes care of their every need. Ladies, this is a beautiful truth that we can take heart in and believe that He really is in control of our every need. He knows what we need even better than we think we know ourselves. Though it may be difficult, though you are walking through some very dark circumstances, though you have lost hope, hear this: He has not forgotten you.  He has not and will never forget you nor leave you.

I challenge you, friends, to attempt this unwavering faith. Yes, it will be hard. There will be times that you feel there is no hope and that He has forgotten you. But know that He has not. And we are called to have unwavering faith in the father. We are called–and have the privilege– to trust in His holy and perfect plan for our lives. And why shouldn’t we? I mean, He suffered the most painful and humiliating death FOR ME AND YOU. He died on the cross in our place. He deserves every bit of glory and honor and praise. He did this so that you and I could have everlasting life. Now tell me, why would He sacrifice so lovingly, and then screw you over? Believe in this ever encouraging truth, women. He loves you far more than the lilies of the valley and the ravens in the sky. He will never leave you, nor forsake you.

He is God, and I am not.
